| The Most Common Weed Problems 99% of weed problems originate from seeds germinating in the top mulch. Weeds coming up from the ground are a minor problem and almost all fabrics effectively stop them. Only landscape fabrics that prevent root penetration from the weed seeds germinating in the mulch ABOVE the fabric will be effective in controlling weeds in the landscape. Fabrics that allow roots to pass through to the moist soil below actually make weed problems far worse. Why WEED-X® is the Only One That Works Patented, Dual-Layer Material Weed-X® is a dual layer material whose top layer prevents roots from penetrating into the fabric while the bottom layer pulls water and air into the soil to promote healthy landscape plants. Other fabrics on the market are actually too porous, with too many openings, allowing too many weed roots to penetrate. Engineered as a Weed Control Fabric Weed-X® has been designed with the perfect balance of permeability and weed control. In other words, Weed-X allows the right amount of water, air, and nutrients to pass through while it stops root penetration. Why the Landscape Fabric You May Have Used Made Weed Problem Worse As mentioned above, weeds that germinate in the top mulch account for 99% of ongoing weed problems. If a weed growing in the mulch can get its roots through the fabric, two things happen: 1) The weed can take advantage of the moist soil below the fabric and can grow much faster and bigger than if it were just in bare ground. 2) Weed roots become entangled in the fabric, are difficult to remove, and usually result in the fabric being cut or torn when the weeds are pulled. |
